The Skinny Review:
Pop-punk guitars and clear, melodic vocals make "Real World" an accessible song for a variety of music fans. The lyrics are thought-provoking, taking a stand against those who try to keep you down. It's a catchy, relatable single with a poppy punch that is sure to stick in your head.
In Their Own Words:
Having been featured on Rolling Stones' Daily Music List as an artist to watch for her last single, Confessions, London based singer-songwriter Aruna returns with Pop-Punk anthem Real World. Inspired by a sarcastic comment from an ex-boss when quitting her job to pursue music, Aruna comes after the naysayers in all our lives and sends an empowering message about autonomy and safe spaces. Going for an edgier tone to her previous work, the track lays down heavy guitar riffs and fierce drumming patterns. Produced by Alt-rock artist Kamran Ramsden, Aruna raises a sonic rebellion against the judgemental Karens ‘trapped in the suburbs’ amidst a bombastic soundscape inspired by Paramore and Olivia Rodrigo.
With the central theme of Real World revolving around the lyric "we're gonna rise up and take our place", Aruna uses her latest single to explore topics such as an inherent lack of respect from certain authority figures, and patronising comments from the cynics of our world. Most importantly though, the song focuses on putting a positive spin against these forces by using one's own power to rise up and create a world that you own.
